Cold Soggy Start

Agggh...! The weather is yucky today. But I'm heading to Columbia Lakes in a few minutes anyway. The radar shows a gap in the rain around West Columbia, although it's sure to get some rain a little later. I know I'll have a few students if it is dry. Plus, I've got 5 racquets to string today and lots of paper work I can do. Monica's going to come with me today, too. She's going to work on some art projects.

I weighed in today at 228...! Another Agggh...! But for some reason I've got a good feeling the weights going to come off quickly. Monica has promised to help me. We're going to really work hard at encouraging each other through our weaknesses...

I'm so fortunate to have such a sweet, loving wife...!

I slept in a little this morning, so I need to close here. But I'll be back this afternoon with an update...! Thanks for checking in on my journal.

Try to stay warm and dry the next few days... Bye for now,

Weekend Recap

I went to Columbia Lakes every day this week except Thursday. That's a record for me.

I played 3 sets of singles on Saturday afternoon and my feet are starting to bother me again. I've been having trouble walking today. Man, I've really got to lose some weight quick or I won't be able to function on the tennis court...! I was really good with my diet all day today...!

We've been having trouble with Monica's Jeep again. And the first place we took it too kept it for 3 days and couldn't fix it so we dropped it off at a Jeep dealership near our house early this morning. Then we went to church in Clear Lake, then drove to West Columbia for a little afternoon tennis event. We got home at 9:00 PM.

I'm going to watch a little TV and then get to bed for an early start tomorrow. There's a good chance of rain tomorrow. I may have a long office day. That wouldn't hurt my feelings...!

Well, that's about it for now. I'll check back tomorrow morning.

Bye for now... Coach Sam

Still Swamped...!

I haven't had much free time to write lately. Today will be my shortest day. I had a few lessons cancel this morning so I don't have to be at Columbia Lakes until 10 AM. I've got one group lesson then lunch with my wife who's joining me today... Then a little singles practice for Coach Sam...!

Yesterday I spent the entire day at Columbia Lakes Monitoring a High School tournament that was being held on our courts. I made a lot of good contacts, but it was an all day effort and I was worn out by the end of the day...!

I'll write more later tonight....

Bye for now...! Coach Sam

Big Week Update...

You read about my big week back on the 24th. Well, I'm just now able to post again in my journal. It's been THAT busy. Last night I didn't get home until 11 PM and I was able to sleep in this morning until 8 AM...! Woohoo...! I feel pretty good now but I was wiped out last night.

This morning I'm at home working on the computer all morning until about Noon. I've got things to sign up for online, emails to send, reports to make... Then I have to head down to League City for my afternoon lessons.

Its' just a BIG Week... Like I said earlier...!

The good news is that it might rain Friday and Saturday which would lighten my load a little bit. Unfortunately it would lighten my wallet, too...! But I definitely have a slower day next Tuesday...! Yea...! I can look forward to that...!

Well, I gotta dive into some other projects this morning. Thanks for reading my journal. Bye for now.

Big Week...!

The next seven days are big...! I've got lots of lessons all week and two school tournaments at Columbia Lakes. One on Tuesday and one on Friday. Today is especially a crucial day. I need to lay the foundation for a good and productive day. There is a ton of stuff for me to do... I need to start by packing up and preparing for a full day away from home. I'm contemplating spending the night at Columbia Lakes to get caught up on everything I need to do this week. We'll see about that...

Anyway, I'll probably log in with an update this afternoon. I need to journal frequently to keep my sanity. Plus, believe it or not, there's many people that like to keep up with my schedule and my thoughts. Occasionally I'll write something funny, and every now and then I may even write something profound. (Although that occurence is extremely rare is does happen sometime...!)

Sorry that so far today hasn't been one of those funny or profound days yet. But cheer up, the day is still young...!

Thanks for reading my journal.

I'll CATCH YOU THIS AFTERNOON WITH AN UPDATE~

Sunday Night Update...

Sigh... It has been a long day. I don't know where to start... I'm wiped out... At least the tournament was completed and without any problems.... I've got a busy, busy week ahead of me... Starting with an early morning tomorrow!

I may log back on later, but if not... Then I'll be back in the morning.

Thanks,

Coach Sam

Updating the Tournament...!

4:45 PM I'm at home and getting phone results from the various sites from the tournament. At the moment I'm waiting for a call back from two different sites... I'm also helping Monica with housework. So I'm triple-tasking for those of you keeping score...!

5:00 PM... I'm back to waiting for results again... I should have pretty much updated everything by 6 PM then I'm going to take Monica out on a date tonight...!

5:42 PM... I've almost got everyone's results... There's just a few more matches left...! I'm taking a break....

Coffee Break

1:52 PM... I'm taking a few minutes off from the tournament to have a delicious Cafe Mocha from Diedrich's...

The tournament is going well so far. And I've taken a few photos to remember the event with.

Tomorrow's supposed to be cold. I hate that for the players, but that's tournament tennis...!

I'm about to pack up and head back out... More later...!

Coach Sam

Tournament today.

I'm helping with the Bay Oaks Junior Gran Prix today. I'll post a full report this evening...!

Have a nice day and thanks for reading my journal...!

Monica at 12 weeks

At 12 weeks Monica is just starting to 'show' Posted by Hello

Sam at 12 Weeks...

Here's me at the same stage of Monica's pregnancy. (12 weeks) Note that I am trying to push out my stomach as far as possible. So far I'm leading in the big baby belly contest...! Posted by Hello

Friday Afternoon At The Coffee Shop...

Ahhhh.... I've had a few minutes to relax and check my messages and just chill out for a bit. I've been on the court this morning from 8 AM to 11:30 AM, then had a meeting at Bay Oaks, then lunch with my friend Eddie, and then off to a tennis supply whole sales shop and now I have an hour to spare before my next lesson. That really translates to only 15 minutes because I need to run an errand before my lesson starts, but hey... That's the first free 15 minutes I've had today.

I've got two more lessons this afternoon, then Monica and I are going to a small group bible study after that. It'll be a late night. But a good one...!

I'm encouraged. I've had a good day today. Busy, but good.

I think I'll close here and post the baby belly photos.

At the time of the photo I was 224 lbs. Monica's exact weight is not going to be published. At 12 weeks my belly is considerably larger. But hopefully we'll see a nice contrasting progression of Monica's belly growing and my belly shrinking in the up coming weeks...!

So much for the ground rules in week one...!

Well, I needed to get up at 4 AM and I had a bit of a restless night.. I awakened at 1, 2 and 3 AM but went back to sleep. The alarm went off at 4 AM and I started my morning prayers but dozed off and didn't wake up again until 4:35... Now I'm rushing around trying to get everything done before I need to leave at 6:45 this morning to head off for my morning Nassau Bay lessons.

I have a lot of touching up to do on my tournament draws and then I need to publish them to the internet and then print up a few reports before I head out. I need to get right on that but I will have a little gap in my schedule this afternoon so I'll log on later and publish the baby belly pictures...!

Bye for now... Have an Awesome day... Coach Sam

Bad Day for the Pine Tree...!

Here's the tree guy. His name was 'Rick'. He spoke in a very loud volume. It must be that he spends too much time around chain saws. Posted by Hello

Funny, the tree looked more substancial than this when it was standing up... Posted by Hello

Here's all that's left. I'll see about getting a stump grinder later on... Posted by Hello

Day One: New Ground Rules

Well, Yesterday was the first day of my new rules to rest more and have a sane schedule. Unfortunately, I already broke the rule by getting home at about 11 AM. I had too many distractions yesterday at work to get all my projects done so I stayed a little later and finished up. At least I compensated by sleeping in a little later this morning...

I got out of bed at nearly 7 AM today....! That's pretty good for me...! I'm about to plan my day after I write a few words of wit. I'm listening to RC Sproul in the background on my laptop as I compose today's journal entry.

My day stacks up like this... I have between now and about 11 AM to work out of the house. Then I need to head toward Clear Lake and League City. I need to wrap up any tournament business at Bay Oaks, then head to League City for my afternoon lessons. I teach today from 2 to 7 PM then I head home. If all goes well I should be home a little after 8 PM tonight. I like the thought of that...!

Today I posted a few pics of the tree coming down. This tree was dead. Killed by pine bark beetles before we even bought the house. Some of the other trees near by have the same condition but I think we can save them. I need to get some treatment to spray them soon.

Tomorrow I'm going to post some stomach photos of Monica's pregnancy. She's 12 weeks along, today! I'm looking out my window at the sunrise. It looks like it's going to be a nice day.

Thanks for reading my journal. I'll check you later.

OK, Some New Ground Rules...!

Alright, here I go. I've got to get a handle on my insane schedule once and for all. Especially in the area of sleep and rest. I'm just not sleeping enough. I've got to really manage my time better. I need to work some set hours, period. I just need to do the best I can and be satisfied that I gave it my best effort in the time I had. I can't keep trying to stay up late and getting up early to get caught up. I'm only staying run down and less productive in the over all process.

I like my morning routine. I get up around 4 AM to have quiet time. I like to start my day with prayer and conversation with God. Then I like to come right here to my journal and pour my heart out to the world in this forum. I don't know how many people read these lines and that doesn't really matter. I think my wife reads me daily. And so do a few friends and family. Sometimes I'm writing for you guys, but mostly it's just for me. This is how I get my act together and organize my thoughts. How I stay Sane...!

Recently I've been under the conviction that I'll one day have a new journal subscriber: my future son or daughter. I am now constantly aware that everything I do and say and write will be under the scrutiny of the next generation of Chadwell's one day . Well, they'll find out that Coach Sam was a mess at times. But he tried hard to get his act together.

And hey, don't get worried here, I'm not writing my eulogy or anything. I'm just aware that when I am finally gone from this earth, that my child will read my journal to find out what kind of man his dad was. That's 'kinda' neat.

I wish my dad would have left me more of a legacy like that. I really can't say I knew him very well. Isn't that sad..? Well, I'm not going to have that for my child, no way.

So... How to get a handle on the schedule...? Well I haven't completely got that figured out yet. It might eventually mean moving closer to work and church one day. It might mean eventually taking on an assistant professional to help me with my lessons load. It definitely means better and more complete planning out every day and not having any wasted precious minutes during the time that I am clocked in. And it definitely means clocking 'out' at a certain time every day and getting enough rest.

OK, it's 7:08 AM. I'm allowing myself two hours to journal every morning and my prayer journal took up more time than I thought it would, but then I didn't get as early a start as I had intended, either. But regardless, I'm out of time here.

Thanks for reading my journal. I'll be back with another report tomorrow morning...!

Bye for now... Coach Sam

Nice Weather we're having.

I certainly can't complain. It's been a little cool here and there, but over all, I'm having the best January I've had in a long time...! Yesterday was a particularly good day. I'll elaborate a little more later, but right now I need to work on the Bay Oaks Tournament. I need to publish first round match times and site directions on the internet.

I'll be back in a little while.

TIMBER...!

Yesterday I had a big pine tree in our front yard cut down. It was deadened had been dead since we moved in. It was a victim of the evil Pine Bark Beetles. We need to treat our other trees so they don't meet the same fate. Anyway, I'm glad it's gone now... It was a real safety issue!

Let's see, working backwards here... I raked a bunch of leaves in the yard yesterday. We've got a lot of leaves but nothing like last year. I think we had something like 50 bags of leaves last January because the previous owner hadn't done yard work in a long time.

Monica and I also made a trip to home depot so we could start some more home improvement projects. We started our day with church and it felt very good to get back into our normal Sunday routine again.

Today I have lessons all day in West Columbia. I need to do some billing before I head out so I need to close here. I'll be back tomorrow with a full report.

Bye for now... Thanks for reading my journal. Coach Sam

A Little Annoying...!

Nothing bugs me worse than a no show for a lesson. Especially an early 8 AM lesson. Thats' what happened this morning. This is sort of a standing lesson, but I do usually confirm during the week. This week I was so busy getting the tournament ready that I didn't confirm. And guess what...? No Lesson....! Sigh...

Well, I've got a few extra minutes to do some work that I was going to do after my lessons this morning. So I guess I'll dive in... This is not a good way to start my day. But I'm sure it will get better....! SC

On the Road...

Today I'm at Columbia Lakes all Morning. Then I need to make a few calls for my camp on Monday, Then I head back to Houston to take Monica to run some errands. We are down to one car for a few days. We had to put my green jeep in the shop for some minor (I hope) transmission work.

Today should be a good day. I'll get some much needed rest this afternoon and tomorrow.

I'm a little short on time this morning to write anything else but I'll catch up tomorrow.

Have a great weekend, and thanks for reading my journal.

A Few Free Friday Afternoon Moments

Hello... I've got time to spare for a change... And I'm hanging out at Diedrich's in Clear Lake. I've got to go meet my wife in town in a few minutes but just thought I'd catch up a bit here.

Lessons this morning went great...!

Then I went to Bay Oaks Country Club for a meeting with the pros there about our tournament next week. It was nice to visit with them. Then I've been at Diedrich's since then... Just getting caught up on my email. Sigh... It's nice to not have to rush any where for awhile...!

I've got one more lesson this afternoon, then Monica and I are going to a small group bible study with other couples from our church music department.

Tomorrow I've got a full morning of lessons at Columbia Lakes. But Sunday looks pretty free and clear. I've just got church on the menu so far! But next Monday is a huge tennis day at Columbia Lakes. I've got a camp and lots of lessons...!

Not much else to report. Now that I've just about got this tournament behind me I can start planning the other ones... Only seven more tournaments to go with the HPTA and I hope to host some of my own tournaments at Columbia Lakes, too. I need to finish scheduling my year...!

There's still lots of projects at the house I need to do, also. I want to have the bulk of our remodeling done in the next couple of months before my inlaws come to visit during spring break. I should just about have enough time to get everything completed.

Here's something out of the blue... I was having a childhood memory recollection that I want to share... I think my younger brother and I were about 7 and 9 years old respectively. We were in church with dad and there was only one prayer book in the church pew. We each grabbed an end and were trying to take total possession of the book. We tugged back and forth, back and forth, and then suddenly we accidentally ripped it completely in half. What was so bad was that it made an awful loud ripping sound in the otherwise quiet church, and attracted lots of attention. My brother John and I were both very surprised, then when we saw the look on our Dad's face we got scared and we both hid under the church pew. Meanwhile, people around us were laughing and really enjoying the spectacle. I can't remember exactly what happened to us when we got home that day, but I'm sure we had trouble sitting down for a few hours after dad got finished with us...

Anyway, that's my humorous story for the day. It's a true story, I promise...!

Well I hope that made you smile. I still remember the look on my little brother's face when that prayer book ripped... Oh, it was hilarious...!

Bye for now... More tomorrow...

Coach Sam

Cccccold morning.....

It's in the 30's out there right now... And when I go on the court at 8 AM it will still probably be in the 30's... Maybe the 40's... I hope there's no wind...!

Am I blessed or cursed that I have students who don't mind the cold temps...? I'd have to say blessed. Although there are those who would disagree...

Today I'm on the court all morning, then I have a meeting at Bay Oaks Country Club. Then I hang out at Diedrich's for awhile and then I'll meet my wife in Houston while she drops off my jeep at a transmission place. (I have a small leak...)

After that if she's up for it we might play a little tennis and then I have one more lesson from 5:30 PM to 6:30. After that we have a small group bible study at the home of some church friends.

It will be a full day. But I'm up for it...! Nothing really exciting to report. I'm just working away, trying to keep sanity and order in my life.

I really appreciate the anonymous comments I received early this morning. I'm not sure who that was, but it was certainly an encouragement... Thank You...!

So that's it. That's my Friday morning report. I've got to get to work on my meeting at Bay Oaks later this morning so I'll close here. Bye for now...!

On Tap For Today...

I have tons to do today. But I need to slow down. So I need to make a choice. I'm not going to fall into the trap of working a little harder today so I can take it easy tomorrow. That never happens. All I can do is try to prioritize as best I can and do what I can do and not worry about the rest. I can avoid heaping more responsibility on my plate. And I can try to include the help of others like my wife and my friends to help with various projects and tasks.

Hey, I can quit trying to be super man. But I will continue to try to do all things to the best of my ability. Yesterday was insane. I got up early and was busy from 7 AM to 10 PM. I'm actually up earlier today and still have a ton of stuff to get done but I'm going after my task with a sane calmness that was absent yesterday.

I'm going to take a little time to read the bible this morning. That's something I always intend to do but it always seems to get pushed off the daily agenda. After my quiet time I need to wrap up this tournament I'm working on. Then I have lessons in League City all afternoon. If there's time between getting the tournament finished and leaving for my lessons I'll help do some chores around the house. Then I'm going to try to get to bed as early as possible tonight, so I can start Friday feeling refreshed and ready for action...!

That's it for now.

See you tomorrow morning with Coach Sam's daily ramblings!

Mourning an Old Friend....

I didn't post a journal entry yesterday and with good reason. As I was about to head out for work yesterday morning I found one of our cats, 'Jack', out in the road. He had been hit by a car sometime in the early morning hours. I had the dreadful task of telling Monica. And she was (and still is) very upset and grieving. We buried Jack in our back yard with his favorite kitty blanket, some pictures, and kitty toys.

Jack was a fine Cat. He had a great personality and loved us very much. Monica had him since he was a kitten. He would have been 7 years old this Spring. We will miss him very much. He is survived by Hobbes, Peepers, and Gabriel.

That's all I have to write today. I'm still a little shaken and saddened by the unfortunate event yesterday, myself.

More later... Bye for now...

Tournament Data Manager

Hello... It's Sunday morning. I'm watching Joel Osteen. He's giving a good sermon about having and keeping one's Joy.

Hey, Monica just brought me some coffee and a cinnamon roll. Wow...! Mmmm.... I'm so lucky...!

Yesterday I had a nice morning of lessons at Columbia Lakes. I got home about 3 PM and went to the grocery store, and blockbuster video.

I got The Manchurian Candidate, The Chronicles of Riddick, Pearl Harbor, and an old 1963 movie with Steve McQueen. Does anyone remember the movie, The Great Escape...? I remember watching it as a kid growing up. It was good.

I was up until about 2 AM watching the movie, and working on the tournament I have coming up at Bay Oaks. And that's what I'll be doing most of the today, if not all day...!

Perhaps I'll take a few breaks this afternoon and go out and rake some leaves...!

That's the Sunday Morning Report. More later... Bye for now!

Friday Afternoon...!

I've had a full day so far... I had lessons this morning from 8 to 11:30 AM and had good attendance despite of the cold and damp conditions. I check my PO Box and had a 'ton' of mail for my upcoming tournament so that's good news.

I had a delicious lunch at Quisine of India. Monica doesn't really care for Indian food so I seldom get to eat it. Every now and then on a Friday I satisfy my craving...! Mmmm... it was good!

I just finished returning all my phone messages and emails and now I'm about to relax for a few minutes....! Diedrich's is my favorite place to hang out on Friday afternoons. I'm sitting at a table right now because I'm afraid that if I sit on the couch that I'll dose off.

Monica's at home not feeling too well. I hope she starts feeling better soon. I know how she feels. I was wiped out over the New Year's break.

I should get home by 6:30 PM tonight. That's very early for me. I was going to teach an extra lesson today and go to small group from church, too but I'm going to head home early instead. I need to start entering in data for my upcoming tournament. I've got alot of work to do in West Columbia tomorrow, too.

This is kinda funny, I was really going to try to to slow things down and take it easy this year. You know, not heap so much on my plate like I normally do... But so far I haven't been able to do that. It's going to be really hard for me to slow down. I've been working at a fever pitch for years. I think I'm really only content when I'm going all out on some project with a deadline... It's tough for me to just slow down and relax.

Oh well... I guess I'll close for now. More later... Maybe some photos, too.

Our New Kitty? I don't think So..!

The back yard possum is not really our new pet. We really prefer to just take in stray kitties. My wife discovered that we actually have tow different possums coming around. We haven't seen them both at the same time, but last night Monica said that a smaller possum came by last night while I was at Columbia Lakes. I guess we'll have to come up with some names, soon.

Last night my lessons at Columbia Lakes were cut short by the cold front and some rain. Today it's kinda cold but if it's not rainy, I'm going to teach today in Rustic Oaks. I'm sure that some of my students will not mind to brave the cool temperatures. And for those that don't want to get out... Well... I won't hold it against them...!

Today, I'm going to really try to get my office organized before I head out to work. Poor Monica is sick with what I had over the holidays. And being pregnant there's really not a lot of medicine she can take. I'm praying for her and trying to do everything I can to make her feel more comfortable.

The next few days and over the weekend I'll be super busy with organizing the Bay Oaks Junior Gran Prix tournament. But I'm having a good time with it...!

Ahhh... That's about it. I have about an hour and a half before I need to head out to run some errands before my classes. I still need to send some email correspondence too before I head out so I'd better close here.

Bye for now... Coach Sam

Back at the 'Clear Lake Office'...

I'm back at Diedrich's for my second time today. This is my Clear Lake Office. For those of you not familiar with Clear Lake Geography, Diedrich's is a Coffee Shop. I've hung out here for years. And now that it offers free highspeed internet, that's a big bonus.

I have tons of friends here. It's a comfortable, casual atmosphere. The staff is very nice. And the coffee is the best...! But I'm just having iced tea today. That's pretty good here, too.

Yeah, I'm just taking it easy for a few minutes... I've got one more class in Seabrook tonight, then I'm done for the evening. I'm still feeling pretty good. I almost lost my voice for a second in my earlier class. I think all my coughing has taken it's toll...

Hmmm... I'm kinda thinking about dinner tonight. I haven't eaten very much today. I want to better with my diet. I had a hard boiled egg and juice for breakfast, then a hot dog for lunch. That's all I've had so far today except maybe for a few animal crackers. That kind of diet is not going to give me the energy I need...

Monica and I talked about actually planning our menus for the entire week. Now that's a novel idea.... If we were doing that then I'd already know what I was having for dinner...!

OK... I'm, rambling. I think I'll just close here and check in tomorrow. Bye for now...

Back in the Groove

Hello... I'm still not 100% but I'd say that I'm in the 90th percentile of health and that's good enough for me.

I can't stand to be stuck inside. Monica and I went to Costo yesterday evening and it was the first time I had been out of the house in over 48 hours...!

I'm ready to get to work...!

Today I have my normal Tuesday afternoon schedule in Nassau Bay.

Yesterday I spent a lot of time working on the HPTA Junior Gran Prix. I'm setting the Circuit up to be run on a different tournament software this year. That's been fun...!

This year I'm really going to redefine myself as a tournament director wizard...!

I hope to put on tournaments at Columbia Lakes later this year and put that club back on the tennis map in Texas Tennis...! That will definitely be a 'win-win' situation...!

Ahhh... It's 9:15 AM right now. I need to get on the road by 11:30 today because I need to stop at the Nassau Bay Post Office to pick up HPTA mail. So with the rest of my morning I'm going to send a few emails, straighten up around the house, and prepare my lunch and a snack for later: I have lots of holiday brisket I need to consume...!

I'll try my best to log in and write some more tonight. Bye for now... Coach Sam

oh yeah: here's the post flu weigh in: 222.5 lbs. This morning. Some of that weight loss has got to be dehydration, but that's a whole lot better than the 229.5 lbs I was at earlier in December. With hard work and diet I should be below 220 by the end of the week...!

No Champagne for me...

Hello...

Here's my first blog entry of the New Year. I took a dive on New Year's Eve. The day went down hill almost from the start.

I started out by taking Monica's car to the Firestone dealership for an oil change. There was a major accident at an intersection right before the garage and I had to navigate around backed up traffic to get there. Once I got there, I was told they were too busy to work me in right away, that I should come back in a couple of hours. So I went home...

I started to feel a little achey in my neck and back and had a tinge of a sore throat but over all I still felt ok at that point.

Monica and I were going to go to her favorite Mexican restaurant for lunch and when we got there they were closed. We were going to go see the Dead Sea Scrolls but it was sold out for the next 3 days. We were going to take my jeep to a transmission place but it was closed, and by the end of the day I was feeling a lot more run down, but we had planned to go to Taste of Texas for our New Year's Eve dinner, but when we got there it was the busiest we've ever seen, there was at least a two hour wait, so we went to a Mexican restaurant on the way home.

I was feeling really bad by the time we got home. I went to bed at 9 PM, but I did wake up around 11 :30 PM. I stayed up for the new year then went back to bed.

The last 3 days I've spent most of time in bed or propped up on the couch. I felt so bad I haven't even checked my email. So you know I've really been sick...!

I'm still sick today, but I'm doing a little better than yesterday.

I'm taking the day off today but hope to be back in commission tomorrow or Wednesday.

More later...

Thanks for checking in...

Coach Sam
